A Workspace is a grouping of related workflows that encapsulates multiple Environments for different sets of users and applications that are integrated. Workspaces are an important way to allow OneCloud to be deployed for different purposes.

The following steps provide a framework to configure existing OneCloud Workspaces. They may be adjusted to suit specific user requirements.

📓 This example starts from an active OneCloud tenant. The sample screenshots and videos may deviate from what is seen in the OneCloud Environment.

Step 1: Create a Workspace

Login to your OneCloud tenant and select Workspaces from the left-side navigation panel.

  • In the lower-right corner, click the blue (+) icon to Create a Workspace

  • Under Basic Info, change the name to "Sample Workspace for BlackLine".

  • If desired, add a description. This reads: "An example Workspace to get started".

  • Click the "Save" button on the right.

Step 2: Create an Environment

Add a new Environment that will be dedicated to run production-only operations.

  • Click the blue (+) button to the right of the existing Environment.

  • Under Basic Info, set the Name to "PROD".

  • If desired, click the color box to assign a different color.

🌟 Best Practice: A leading OneCloud practice is to set the color to red.

  • Save the change.

Step 3: Add Variables

Create Workspace Variables to hold values that are reusable in various areas of the Workspace.

  • Click "Edit" for the "DEV" Environment and set the variable to "dev-data".

  • Save the change.

  • Click "Edit" for the "PROD" Environment and set the variable to "prod-data".

  • Save the change.

Step 4: Switch between Environments

Use the Environment-switcher to quickly switch between Environments.

📓 Two routes to the Environment-switcher are demonstrated below. Depending on where a user is in the platform, one path may save time compared to the other.

Option 1

  • When remaining in the current Workspace:

    • On the left-side navigation panel, click Build to open the Chains canvas.

    • Near the upper-right corner, select the 🔽 to toggle between Environments.

Option 2

  • When starting in another Workspace:

    • Return to the Workspaces via the left-side navigation panel.

    • Locate the appropriate Workspace.

    • Click the desired Environment.

    • Near the upper-right corner, select the 🔽 to toggle between Environments.
